I actually got around to writing something.

“So I heard that you’re looking for a replacement partner ever since Tashigi had to take time off of work,” a voice said from the detective’s door, which should have been closed.

“Not looking or taking,” the gruff voice replied as he flipped to the next page of the newspaper. Detective B. Smoker was going to suspend whoever thought it would be funny to let Portgas D. Ace into his office space…again.

“I’m serious,” Ace said and Smoker could almost feel the grin that was most likely plastered over the younger man’s face.

“So am I,” Smoker replied as he closed the paper and turned around to glare. “Tashigi is only gone for the week. I doubt the city will collapse in that time,” he continued hoping to end this charade soon. Smoker almost regretted those words as he could picture Ace or his kin, real or fictive, doing just that. The younger man came forward till he was leaning against the detective’s desk.

“Come on, have you been the movies recently? The city could be destroyed in less than an hour…and who would help them? Just think, we could be a great team, like a superhero crime fighting machine,” Ace said and grinned as he watched the veins in Smoker’s temple twitch.

“Portgas…”

“I’ve even got names for us! I could be Fire Fist and you be The White Hunter,” Ace explained and was welcomed by a silence that stretched for a good portion of a minute. Smoker leaned back in his chair and leveled Ace with a look.

“You’ve got five seconds to get out of my office before I make you partners with a pair of hand cuffs and a cell,” Smoker grinded out as Ace eyes lightened up challengingly.
