 Title: gradual undestanding

He was so used to working in a classy restaurant that at first he’d felt completely out of place in this crew.   The captain had been bad enough as the chore boy. Unfortunately for Sanji, that had been Luffy at his most civilized.

 

It wasn’t the nonexistent table manners, or the lack of fashion sense that annoyed the cook most, it was how Luffy took delight in the most childish things. Sanji had been completely aghast on their first landfall when Luffy had piped up that he liked Gen san’s pinwheel. Of course when Nami said she liked it too, Sanji had had to let that go. 

            He didn’t understand how the idiot could be so delighted by Usopp’s obvious lies, but soon Sanji found himself appreciating the stories just as much. And he became the one to beg for more (if only in private)

 

Over the time they traveled together Sanji became accustomed to the captains oddity. He came to love the wide eyed delight that Luffy showed at anything new. He noticed that his captain never seemed disappointed. He watched Luffy defeat foe after foe, and grew to love the boy and his innocent ways.

 

Sanji was no idiot, so by the time Luffy kissed him the same complete confidence that Sanji had come to love, the cook knew that he was the one who was outclassed.
