Title: Lifeline
Topic:panic knots
Word Count: 300
Rating: PG
Pairing: Zo/San
Disclaimer: Characters and setting? Not mine. Probably just as well. Here, have them back...
Summary: Sanji meets cannon ball and does not save. Zoro is surprised. Everyone else gossips. But never mind that; there's a big comfy couch down below deck...
Excuse:
cptn_shinigami wrote "The calm without the Storm", then I wrote "Storm Under the Calm", then she wrote "Storms in the mind", and now, because
yuki_kokoro is a pest (but we love her and it's all her fault and we're so not complaining, really), it's my turn again. *hee* Sorry it took so long; we had a topic change and that took some juggling. And a crowbar. ;)

He was so strong, had been so strong through that ordeal. So when Sanji shifted to bury his face against Zoro's throat and curled up accommodatingly against the swordsman's chest, Zoro marvelled; the idiot would ordinarily never have let himself be carried off this way. He wanted to remember this feeling always, of Sanji held close in his arms, needing him for a change.
Only a few short steps across the deck, then the bunkroom door Franky had held open swung shut behind them. Heavy footsteps echoed as Franky walked away, leaving them alone.
There was no shortage of places to take the injured man: his bunk, Zoro's, Chopper's infirmary. Zoro headed for Merry's old couch instead, where they'd spent so much time together. Where they'd first sat, Sanji rambling drunkenly about heartbreak, and Zoro, hammered enough to find the cadence of Sanji's voice pleasantly soothing, just listening and finally, reaching out. Where they'd taken those first hesitant steps towards love together. He'd insisted they keep the thing. Now, it served him instinctively as a safe harbour.
Well, there was no keeping their relationship quiet now. Everyone had seen; he'd heard what they'd been saying. It didn't matter, as long as Sanji was here.
Zoro wasn't sure when he'd started petting the man in his lap. He'd only intended to make sure there weren't any other injuries, but somehow he couldn't make himself stop touching, stop gently reaffirming Sanji's reality and presence. Sanji was drifting slowly to sleep, the shock taking its toll on his system, but that was fine.
It was a surprise to find Sanji suddenly squirming, shifting, clinging to him, but that was fine, too. Zoro didn't mind being the reason Sanji clung to, the knot in his lifeline, as long as he held on, and stayed...
