There was nothing Ace hated more than a fully clothed Smoker. It wasn't until everything slowed down that he remembered why—why he hated giving in to temptation and to Smoker. Every time he saw the man, he knew he would end up hurt when he left, but it was hard to deny his lover when the clothes started coming off.

He loved being with Smoker. He loved  the man's almost constantly irritated demeanor; the way he'd always  threaten to arrest Ace when they saw each other, even though they both knew they'd be rolling around on the floor or pressed up against a wall together soon enough. They'd peel each others' clothes off, tearing away their differences and restricting loyalties. They’d forget how forbidden their relationship was, how much trouble they'd both be in if they were ever caught, how much it would hurt when it was over. It was all lost in the feel of their bodies molded together, drowned out by muffled moans and desire overriding their senses.

But when things calmed down...they both had to go back to their separate lives.

Sometimes they would lie close together for a few moments afterwards to relearn how to breathe and give their jellied limbs a chance to ossify. But as soon as Smoker would start dressing...Ace's short-lived satisfaction and contentment would be crushed by the forgotten knowledge that they could never truly be together. They'd never go out for lunch together or spend the night with the other.
They'd never be more than fuck buddies with a complicated relationship that neither of them had the balls to try and decipher for fear of it falling apart. And each piece of clothing Smoker donned just seemed to drive that agonizing fact deeper into Ace's heart.

And that's why there was nothing Ace hated more than a fully clothed Smoker.
