Title: Unbeatable
Rating: PG for mentioned violence?
Word Count:300
Pairing: Gin/Van Auger
Topic: So Unbreakable
Author's note: This is a bit of headcanon/AU based stuff which requires some explanation in short hand. D: Unfortunately short hand of it isn't available at this moment in time, so just ask for it if your curious.
Some things were hard to break, bad habits being the worse, but the best was something that very few were able to hang on to, a spirit that didn’t crack when put under strain but instead tried to fight and mold its self to something that could survive.
It was that will and strength that had gained Gin allies among the division commanders of the Whitebeard pirates. Its was what made him push himself to the edge when in battle, like a dog breed and trained for fighting.
It’s what made Auger’s pulse race when he watched him from his perch above the battle field, breath catching in his throat as he aimed, and then a split second later the target dropped not by a shot but by a metal tonfa striking the man’s chest.
A shiver chased its way up the sniper’s spine as he shouldered his rifle, watching the battle below for now, even if his focus was mostly on the demon who was cutting through his opponents like a typhoon would a fleet of ships.
Unbeatable.
Unbreakable.
Unafraid.
There was nothing that man couldn’t do, he had a direction even if it was vague…he still had one unlike Auger, who was so use to being blown about by fate that he wasn’t even sure what he wanted anymore.
The click of a rifle nearby by dragged him from his thoughts, and with the grace and speed that had earned him his epithet, Auger picked off an opposing sniper that was targeting the man below, causing Gin to look up and smirk in the direction his ally had fired from.
Auger swallowed, startled by the glance but it strengthened a resolve that was building. As long as he was around he wouldn’t let that spirit fall so easily.

Once upon a time, there was a Smoker and an Ace, and despite his massive personality flaws, decided that he was rather fond of the bastard
in bed. So cutting through their interpersonal nonsense, we get to the Whitebeard war at Marineford. Ace is rescued in the end, but with papabeard dead, it leaves Marco to step up from his slot as 1st division commander.(Notice here that with Thatch dead as well and Marco moving up, the crew et all are missing two div. commanders. Moving on--)
So naturally, after Marco and crew get back up on their feet, they go after Blackbeard. You get him out of the way and you're left with a ragtag crew of...well...whatever they are. Smoker is more than happy to take them off Marco's hands for his brand of justice. However...in dealing with the leftovers, before dealing out the bitchslap of karma to each and every, Marco makes sure to troll through them on a case-by-case basis. Their captain had led them into the mess, so they might as well have a chance to explain themselves.
In the end, the only man who gets out (relatively) scot-free is Auger. He's the fate-this, fate-that tag-along. So Marco keeps him essentially to keep a man that -good- at what he does out of anyone elses' hands. With that said, he attempts to beat out the 'wheeeee inner-tube of self down the river of fate!' mentality and into something a little less waffly.
Some time after Auger's
abductioninduction into the crew (Marco has to play big brother an awful lot, anti-Blackbeard sentiments still run -very- strong, so Auger isn't all that popular on board), Gin floats himself toward their general vicinity (after finally ditching Krieg and tooling around lost for the longest time). They haul him on deck and the boys being who they are and Gin being a giant NOBODY on the Grand Line gets a whole bunch of hospitality (bitch tears, bitch tears) in contrast to Auger's near-ostracizing.But time goes on, yadda yadda, and as the crew rebuild their ranks, in a sort of social experiment, Marco has a nice chatter with the other commanders, and after paddling around in the general consensus, appoints Gin and Auger as the 15th and 16th div. commanders, helping out with all of the newbs.
There's a lot of conflict big and small, a lot of it rearing up in the bashing together of Gin's trained-to-kill, ruled by an iron fist, fighting dog mentality versus Auger's more passive attitudes--but it's fun.
...and cute.
Gin seriously does not know what to do with all of these hugs Ace keeps giving him. He's also a little worried about Vista's scary 'stache and wants to know if Trap-chan is a he or a she. This bothers him.
Aaaand that's the barest bones of it. *wipes brow*
