Title: Mother
Length: 384 words (SORRY)
Subject: Debts
Pairing: UsoSan
Rating: PG
Notes: Something I've always wanted to write about. Sorry if it's vague... I would have liked to expand it a little, but it would have been WAAY too long. I felt it needed to be done.
In his deepest and murkiest dreams, he would remember.
It came back to him, foggy shadows at the bottom of the greatest ocean, in the latest hours of night, on the quietest, quietest nights. That dark, warm, velvet touch, as if he was wrapped in the most soothing, rocking waters; being cradled by the gentlest, most perfect wave. Everything was so soft and basic, everything was so right. He had risen from the most beautiful sea, beached on the most beautiful island. A mellow voice echoed in his skull and vibrated through his fragile bones.
Then came the final part of the memory, the part that he never wanted to leave, that he wanted to stay with him, in his mind, forever. He looked up into wise eyes, tired pools full of the bluest of blue, they were all blue lakes and from them ran salty rivers. They were so blue. They were so blue. And then they closed, and he never saw them again.
He never saw them again, and he never remembered what they looked like when he woke up.
He woke up, and he was crying. How shameful… He was crying into something soft and warm and sweet, and a scratchy tenor met his ears with concern.
“Sanji…”
He looked into a different set of eyes. They were young and old at the same time. They were frightened and worried, and understanding. They were obsidian and endlessly deep, and he liked to lose himself in them sometimes.
“…it was that dream again.”
“Was it nice?”
“….yeah. Real nice.”
“Did you remember?”
“…no.”
“I’m sorry…”
He couldn’t sleep just yet. He felt he had something to say…that had never been said before… Something he felt someone else had to know. Now that he had found the right person to tell.
“My greatest debt is to her, you know. Not to Luffy… not even to that… that shitty old man—“
“I understand,” the owner of the dark, long-lashed eyes said, and bent over him, placing a chaste kiss on his mouth. “I know. I think about mine every day.”
He snuggled into the other young man, and drifted back to sleep.
She’s the only person on this earth who gave her own life for me… and I can never pay her back.

Date: 2004-11-23 05:59 am (UTC)They're such cute momma's boys. It's very Sanji-like to feel that way. And for Usopp to understand. And y'know. Momma's boys love.

Date: 2004-11-23 07:29 am (UTC)I almost have to wonder if this unpayable debt to this wonderful woman, his mother, is reflected in the way he falls over himself for other women. Not ... quite in the same way, but an interesting possibility. And Usopp .. that makes so, so much sense, too ^^ Aside from which, *BAWLS*
