I know Monkey D. Luffy. I don't mean I'm aware of him, or I've met him; I don't even mean that I'm familiar with him as a member of his crew, the first, even. I mean I know him, like... like...

I'm not explaining this well. Let me start over.

Surely you've heard the term "soul mates"? Usually it refers to some couple--male and female couple, I mean--that just seem so perfect for each other... Well, I think Luffy and I may well be soul mates. I mean, I really don't know how else to explain the way I feel about him, and how much I understand him, how... connected I feel to him.

Yeah. Connected. That's what I'm trying to say. We're connected. Sure, I sometimes find him exasperating, and I know I occasionally annoy him too, but that's all minor stuff. It's... it's bullshit. Cuz when it matters, during a fight, or when the ship and our nakama are in danger, or... or even in those quiet, er... intimate moments, we feel it. In those moments, we cast aside all the bullshit, all of the petty unimportant stuff and we're stripped down to pure instinct and emotion. At that level, we know each other as well as we know ourselves.

THAT'S what I mean when I say I know Monkey D. Luffy.

I've always thought those two had great chemistry, whether it be romantic or platonic.

Yeah, I kept the exact nature of the relationship vague. This could be either.

Makes me wonder who Zoro's telling this to.

I picture this happening: The reporter asks if he knows Luffy, and Zoro ends up going off on this little spiel.. heh.
