Pairing: Galley La
Word Count: 310
Shipbuilding could be a time-consuming job. Even Water 7’s number one shipwright squad, the Galley La, sometimes ran into overtime. When that happened, the crew stayed in the shipyard in a small barrack-style building. The annual fulfillment of the world government’s contracts had them living together for several months.
The hour was late, but the men of the Galley La were still awake. It had been a long day, outfitting the flagship of the second admiral. Poker was the game of the night, with Paulie as usual in the hole.
“Straight flush. You lose again.”
“Stupid pigeon. Shut the hell up and talk for yourself.”
“Don’t be a sore loser.”
“Fine. Bastard.”
Hattori fluttered up to perch on Lucci’s head as the chips flew across the table. The pile in front of Paulie was almost non-existent. But the leader of the mast division was stubborn and he glared at his comrades.
“Deal me in again.”
“We’ve won enough for tonight. Time for some air. Kaku?”
The chief mechanic nodded and followed man and pigeon from the room.
“Say.” Paulie studied his hand and frowned. “Where do those two always go off to? Whenever we gotta be stuck here, they disappear before I can win my money back.”
Tileston and Lulu shared a look.
“What? Come on, what is it?”
“Well,” Lulu examined his own cards, poker face firmly in place. “As I understand it, they’re off to enjoy each other’s company.”
“Like they can’t do that here?”
“It’s not quite like that.”
Tileston broke in. “The rumors say they meet up with Califa sometimes, too.”
“Wait. Yer sayin’ that they, and she, and her skirts are TOO SHORT! ARGH! I DON’T WANT TO KNOW!”
Paulie settled after a moment. “Anyway, whatever they’re doing is their business. Not mine. They’re just escapin’ my revenge...I’ll see yer ten and raise ya five.”

Now I'm imagining Paulie's reaction next chapter. "You mean you're gay and you're *spoiler*?! That's too much! But at least you're all clothed!"
