A New Year's fic!
Dec. 26th, 2004 11:46 amTitle: New Year
Rating: G
Pairing: Luffy/Zoro
Word Count: 283
Topic: Christmas/Holiday
The Straw Hats were in the midst of their New year's Party, drinking and dancing and singing and generally living it up. As midnight rolled around, however, their captain noticed that one member of the group seemed a little less festive than the others.
"Hey, Zoro," Luffy said sitting on the railing next to where his first mate stood. "Something wrong?"
The swordsman looked up at the younger man. He sighed. "I'm not strong enough," he stated flatly. "On Little Garden... I should have been able to get myself free. I held everyone back." He looked away. "How can I ever face him again when I'm still so weak?" There was no need for a name; both men knew who he meant.
Suddenly, there was a loud whistle. The ship's gunner, Usopp, shouted, "It's midnight!"
Smiling, Luffy bent over and down, stretching his neck out to kiss Zoro gently on the lips. "There. Now it doesn't matter."
"Huh?"
"All that stuff you were saying; about being weak and holding people back... it doesn't matter, 'cause that was last year."
"Luffy..." Zoro began to protest.
"No, really," Luffy interrupted gently. "You don't have to worry about what happened before; you have a whole new start. So, now all you gotta do is worry about is what happens from today." The future Pirate King looked out over the horizon. "You don't have to *forget" the past, of course, cuz it's important. But you can't let it get you down, Zoro. That's the point of New Year's... you look back at the past, but you keep moving forward."
Zoro looked at his captain. "'Moving forward'..." Smiling, he turned, looking toward the same horizon as his captain.
