Title: Nakama
Rating: G
Pairing: Zoro/his swords (not as weird as it sounds)
Word Count: 300
Zoro set the three swords out in front of him. He had his whetstone and polish out and ready.
He picked up the black sword first. Yubashiri. He gently unsheathed it, looking it over. He loved its light, delicate feel. Despite this, it was still a powerful sword. He carefully sharpened and cleaned it; then he cleaned its well-worn scabbard as well.
Next came the red sword. Sandai Kitetsu. He smiled as he drew it. He could feel its power; the blood and darkness that had been its legacy until it had found its way to him. It obeyed him now; perhaps because it sensed him as a soul mate, of sorts. Smiling, he went about giving it the same care he'd just given Yubashiri.
With reverence--always--he picked up the white sword. Wadou Ichimonji. He carefully slid it from its sheathe. He'd had this one for many years, and it had served him well. As he held it, he could feel Kuina there, with him, giving him strength and purpose. He smiled. He took extra care with this sword. He used the whetstone delicately, sharpening and smoothing out the blade. Then he cleaned the blade gently. He took extra care cleaning the hilt, as he often held it in his teeth to wield the sword. Then he cleaned the scabbard with the same care. He finished and carefully re-sheathed it.
The others made fun if him sometimes, calling him a "sword freak". They didn't--couldn't--understand his relationship to his swords. They were weapons, yes, but they were also companions and confidants and... well, lovers seemed a bit too strong, but not too far from the truth. Of course he cared about his swords; they were, as much as any of the humans on the ship, his nakama.

"Oddly sweet"? Actually, that's good, that's pretty much what I was going for. ^_^
...which would be followed by the traditional "make yourself feel better by dancing around to a Motown song" scene.
Er... maybe not... ~_~
(just FYI, lj's spell checker recognizes "Motown" as a word. Cool. ^_^)

Date: 2005-01-07 06:17 pm (UTC)Well, what do you expect? You keep writing these things that jump off the screen, gob-smack the readers brains, then depart with a cheeky 'you know you love me, bitch', and you’re bound to leave a few community members lifeless. ^^
