Author's Note: If you tilt your head to the side, squint, put on 3-D Glasses, and read lots of bad gay fanfiction for three hours straight, this fic might fall into the range of emotional bondage. Maybe.

Expenditure
Smoker can't remember a time he wasn't aware that everything in this world comes at a price. His own Devil Fruit power is a perfect example of this: strength, at the sacrifice of the ability to swim.

The pirate is half-curled beside him on the bed, fast asleep, looking for all the world like another innocent. But the tattoo on his back is a constant reminder of who and what he is; of the path he's chosen and will not stray from; of who he's loyal to.

And Smoker wonders what he'll eventually have to give up to keep this.
