Wow, angst. And this was a BITCH to pare down, especially the last few words I removed.
Also! Mei, I got your request for your prize pic. n_n Sorry it took so long to respond, we lost our internet here for a week RIGHT after I posted the winner post @_@ I'll be on it shortly though and post it on DA when I finish. n_n
He had to wonder sometimes why he was allowed to do it. He knew the other man couldn't possibly like it. Not that it was ever particularly easy to figure out what he liked. But he couldn't imagine that it was the rough scrape of ropes, not wrists bound to a bedframe. But it was allowed nonetheless, with little protest. Perhaps it was out of condescension, implying that even the skillfully crafted knots were no worry to him, apathetic as he was. Saying he didn't need his hands to be in control. Sometimes he liked to fancy that it was out of humor, even compassion. Allowing the lashes that held him in place, stating without words that he would stay. That thought was rarely allowed.
It was always silent, but for breath. The bird had long been forbidden from entering the room with great indignation. Never a spoken word from his quarry, face flushed but eyes always indifferent up until the moment back and brow arched and bowed and broad chest heaved. The gasp of his climax was the closest thing to a sound he'd ever heard from the other man's lips.
After, the silence became unbearable and he filled it with the strike of a match, with the smell of cigar smoke, with his own voice. He ignored the annoyed glances as pale wrists were rubbed -- he knew he'd tied the ropes too tight this time. They'd mark, promising a long time until the next interlude. He feigned his own indifference, a snappy remark shot at the other man.
Tighter knots and longer nights wouldn't draw out that voice though, wouldn't fill the silence any better after the fact. He had to wonder sometimes though what he might have to say if he could bring words to those lips.
