snow-y drabble
Feb. 12th, 2004 07:58 amTitle: Snowfall
Pairing: Zoro/Sanji
Rated: G (sorry guys ^^;;)
Wordcount: 272
Warnings: Other than the lame-ass title? Heh. This one's pretty mild. ^^
The cook lifted his face to the sky as snow drifted down to cling to lips and lashes and the fringe of blond that ever-obscured one eye. It wasn’t the first winter island they’d passed, but it wasn’t often that he caught such flurries early in the morning, when the deck was still quiet, the sun only barely hinting at its inevitable rising. And since no one else was awake yet, there was no one to chide or even raise an eyebrow when he closed his eyes and opened his mouth, pushing his tongue out just enough to catch a few tiny flakes.
No one, that is, except the ship’s swordsman, just waking up from his watch, up above in the crows’ nest. Zoro shivered slightly at the frost that touched his nose and considered escaping to the warmth of the cabin, when his eye caught a hint of movement below. The cook, standing like a fool in the snow, pink cheeks and closed eyes turned upwards, but still unaware of the swordsman’s presence. Zoro watched, unmoving, as one bright flake fell, following its path to the cook’s open mouth. For some inexplicable reason, he was hypnotized by this tiny thing, transfixed as Sanji’s tongue slipped out to lick flushed, chapped lips. But Zoro was betrayed by another snowflake coaxing a sniff from his own cold nose.
Sanji opened his eyes to find his solitude spoiled and, scowling, drew his tongue back inside the warmth of his mouth. Reaching into a pocket, he found a match and lit a cigarette, turning his gaze out to the sea.
And the moment was lost.
