It's more of a sense than a smell, really. Unlike most pirates, Ace isn't greasy or filthy and doesn't think that one bath every four months is an acceptable ratio. But it's still there, especially obvious when the smoke slides over heated skin, the sense of other people having been this close, gotten this far during the spaces inbetween their infrequent meetings.
It's not like it's a surprise. It's not like it's even really much of an issue (really, it's not). Ace is a pirate, and pirates are better known for their kind and caring ways than their ability to be monogamous. It probably doesn't help that Ace walks around in nothing but boots and low-riding shorts. Hell, it got his attention, and he's never been one to pay undue mind to such things. Stands to reason that it'd get other people's attention, and Ace... well, Ace likes attention.
But recently he's been noticing that Ace's visits have been a tiny bit more frequent than usual. And when they're entwined and it's heated and it's good and all defences are down, lately all he can sense is cinders and smoke.
