Kyra's b-day gift.
Feb. 11th, 2005 01:12 pmThese were both written for
cheetahgurl's birthday today.
Title: Comfort
Rating: G
Word Count: 168
Pairing: Nami/Vivi
Topic: None
Vivi had smiled that day. She had laughed at Zoro waking up to find himself being used as Carue’s pillow, complimented Sanji’s cooking, and participated in Luffy and Usopp’s games. She had done all the things that a happy person should do on the Going Merry.
Nami knew about hiding grief and fear with a smile, and had noticed the way Vivi’s smile didn’t touch her eyes, how her laughter was stunted, the way she only picked at her food, and how her hiding spots seemed to have none of their usual creativity. So, finding Vivi curled up in her bed that night, trembling with silent tears, was no shock.
Nami also knew that she could do nothing, here and now, to solve Vivi’s problems. But, if hugging Vivi tightly stopped the shaking, and her whispered story of four boys at a place called Arlong Park dried the tears, maybe it was a start.
Vivi woke up smiling in Nami’s embrace the next day, and her smile was real
Notes: Vivi is a strong women (Nami too), and I don't think she is apt to random fits of crying, but I don't find it hard to believe that, with what she went through at Whiskey Peak and her constant worries about Alabasta, she would have off days.
Title: Reassurance (or, Why Luffy Shouldn't Plan the Dinner Menu)
Rating: G
Word Count: 127
Pairing: Chopper/Sanji
Topic: Consolation
At the pounding of hooves against floorboard, Usopp looked up from his drawing to catch a flash of brown fur disappearing into the boy’s cabin. He started to get up, to check on the doctor, but stopped at seeing Sanji dashing after Chopper.
It took Sanji less than an instant to find Chopper hiding not so efficiently behind the couch. “You know he didn’t mean it Chopper. He probably doesn’t even know what venison is, and if I tear that page out of the cookbook, Luffy won’t think to ask for it again”
Chopper didn’t respond at first, and then slowly moved from his hiding place to turn both watery eyes on Sanji, and whimpered, “You won’t cook me tonight?”
“I'm not going to cook you. Ever.”
Notes: When they first met, both Sanji and Luffy did want to eat Chopper, but at that time, they thought he was just a reindeer (it took them both ages to notice Chopper walked on two legs and talked). Since he became a crew member, Sanji has joked about 'emergency food supply', but nobody has actually tried to eat Chopper. Chopper reacted as he did because Luffy was serious in his request for venison (please correct me if there is a word that specifically refers to reindeer meat).

And, yes, "venison" is the word you're looking for. You hear a lot of venison jokes around Christmas time. ^_^
