Delirium
Up until today, Ace hadn't been aware that he could ever feel too hot, but he'd been proved wrong. Oddly enough, the seastone shackles that bound him were to blame for that, because he wouldn't be feeling this... this bad heat if they hadn't been applied. Fever. His flame kept fever from affecting him. Usually. But he'd been deprived of fire for three days now.
Something wet and cool pressed against his forehead; a cloth, and Ace's eyes flicked open. The world was a blur, spinning and unfocused. A whisper-cry escaped his lips, voice long since stolen by coughing fits and vomiting. He tried to raise his arms, to paw at the figure, but with tremors racing through him he wasn't strong enough to resist the hand pushing him down on the infirmary bed.
"You shouldn't even be in here, brat. You should be in your cell."
The cloth patted his face and forehead down gently, but couldn't dispel the awful heat that swelled in him, making him sweat and shake, freezing on the outside from the draught that slipped over his slick skin and burning up on the inside from the fever. Bad heat, sick heat, so cold and burning. Things danced just outside his vision, the room closing in on him, and a rasping sob sounded despite his throat feeling like he'd swallowed broken glass.
A jacket that was heavy and furred at the collar was draped over him and the blankets pulled up, covering both Ace and the coat. The acrid smell of smoke was obvious despite his stuffy nose, and it gave a level of comfort.
"You'll probably get your damned germs all over it."
The heat swelled again, but despite that, Ace cuddled into the jacket as much as possible and drifted back into sleep.
