The crew of the Going Merry were confused. Their captain had called them together for what he referred to as "an important meeting", though he wouldn't say what it was about. So they assembled together on the main deck. Luffy came out from below deck, and walked up to them, looking unusually stern and serious.
"Luffy," said Nami, "What is this about?"
"Simple," he said, "Today, I want to announce that Roronoa Zoro is my first mate!"
There was a pause. Zoro's brow creased tightly.
"That's it," growled Sanji. "You had us all come out here for THAT?! We already know he's your first mate!"
"I never officially announced it, though," Luffy pointed out.
"Well, ok," Usopp said, "But why are you telling us this now?"
"Cuz Nami said to."
"What? No I didn't!"
Luffy looked confused. "But... you said it was mating season..."
