Word Count: 300
It was late. Very late or very early depending on one’s bedtime. He’d arrived just over twenty minutes ago and was beginning to question his decision. It wasn’t like he’d dropped by for any specific reason. Nor had he, for a change, interrupted anything. So there was no reason for Shanks to be perched on the table eating a banana in such a fashion. No reason at all.
“Stop that.”
Shanks pulled the banana slowly out of his mouth. For an added touch, he licked the very tip.
“Stop what?”
“Bananas aren’t for licking.”
“They are when I eat ‘em.”
He batted his eyelashes outrageously and proceeded to slide most of the fruit back down his throat.
“And you!”
Mihawk turned to Ben, who was lounging up against one wall, nose buried in a book.
“Stop laughing. It just encourages him.”
The taller man grinned and nodded to the captain.
“Keep going. I think it’s working.”
The swordsman stared for a moment as the rest of the banana disappeared. Then he muttered in the rhetorical way of fed-up people everywhere.
“Why do I even bother?”
“Booze.”
The word was garbled by banana as Shanks finally decided to chew.
“To steal books. Where’s my copy of Grand Line, Grand Anarchy? I know you snuck off with it last time.”
“Ho, looks like ya got him.” Shanks was finished with the banana now. “But I know th’ real reason. He likes being jam.”
That earned him two puzzled looks, so Shanks hopped off the table. Grabbing Ben, he towed him over to Mihawk. He draped one of his first mate’s arms across Mihawk’s shoulders, then slung his own around the swordsman’s waist.
“And we don’t mind bein’ bread, do we?”
“Not at all.”
And they steered an unresisting Mihawk off to bed.
