Rating: G
Word Count: 300
Pairing: Nami/Usopp
She was drifting into the serenity of solitude when he appeared over her shoulder with some stupid remark. She rebuked him. He made some left-field comment. She turned it around on him. He doubled the entendre. She laughed, caught off guard, and he joined in. Then she chased him away with a book thrown at his head.
He was telling one of his thousands of half-cocked tales to the awe of his audience. She tried to ignore it, but the sudden exclamations drew her attention. She finished her line, put her papers down and listened. She interrupted with a raised eyebrow and a fact, which was tossed aside by a retort even more ludicrous. The corrections only made him grin wider.
They were running. He was faster, and she called him back. He failed to slow. She angered. Something unfriendly appeared over her shoulder with some stupid remark. And fell back, knocked off its feet. He flashed a victory pose, spooked at something behind her, and ran even faster. She had to hold down her indignation to catch up. When she did, she let it most severely loose.
The adrenaline wore off, and somehow he was once again the most injured and she the least. It would be some time before their captain woke and turned the medical ward into a celebration party. Until then, they lay limply where they were, remnants of fear and adrenaline gnawing at their bones. She forced herself to stand, to stretch, to disperse the anxious energy. He could not, doctor's orders. She watched him stare at the ceiling for some time before stepping up to him, leaning over him and leaving him with a kiss. She walked out without bothering with an explanation for him or herself. Another great lie had just come true.
