Title: Deal
Song: I'll Be There - Megadeth
Pairing: Zoro/Luffy
Rating: PG-13 for the cursing
Word Count: 300
"You ass!" Zoro cursed, pausing in mid-pace to glare at the captain. "What the fuck were you doing, just giving up like that?"
When Luffy didn't answer, merely kept devouring the contents of Sanji's fridge, the swordsman continued the path he was slowly wearing across the galley floor. He'd been doing this for almost an hour, since he'd seen Luffy sneak off in the night and had decided to follow him. The day had been so trying, what with marines, that crazy sword girl, and Luffy's near-death at the hands of that ridiculous clown pirate. It was more than enough to keep him from his usual sound sleep. And when one of the causes of his uneasy rest, Luffy, had awoken him, well, he'd just had to pursue him. He didn't quite know what he wanted, just that his chest had been tight ever since he'd seen that dark head bowed atop the execution platform.
Luffy had fallen on the refridgerator immediately, laying waste to its contents. He'd started walking the length of the galley, stopping periodically to watch the food disappear into the captain's bottomless pit of a stomach. Luffy's lack of an answer was expected, and still it frustrated him. Finally he stopped up against the far wall and gave in to his impulse. He punched it, hard, and sank down to the floor, rubbing sore knuckles.
"You didn't resist, either." The words were soft, somewhat sad. "You welcomed that stroke with open arms…it could've, should've, killed you."
Zoro started, hand briefly touching his chest. "Oh yeah." Rising, he walked over to Luffy and held out his hand. "I'll make you a deal. Neither of us will welcome death, but if it comes, it comes. Deal?" Luff grabbed it, letting himself be pulled away from the food. "Deal."

You saw me slide, you saw me fall
We kept our pride through it all
We started screaming
When skies are dark, no sun shines through
I know I see the light in you
We stopped dreaming and started believing
I'll be there for you, when you walk through the fire
I'll be there for you, when the flames get higher
When nothing fits and nothing seems right
Till the very last breath of my life, I'll be there for you
I'll be there
