There are so many good entries this week. Dancing is wonderfully slash-able, isn't it?
Dancing was the first lesson the old man taught him.
“That's lame. What kind of shitty pirate are you?”
“If you're on this ship you'll know how to fight. So unless you know any other pirate chefs, you'll shut up and learn from me, my way.”
Logical enough, when he thinks about it. Leg strength, balance, coordination. All these things dancing can give him, and so it is the first and most basic lesson.
For his first weeks on the Going Merry, he felt a vague ache in his chest. The unfamiliarity of it all was unsettling but not shamefully so. It seemed all of his life would be full of sudden shifts, so there was no reason to make things more difficult with personal quibbles.
The people were unlike his former circle of. . . whatever they were. As a whole they tended to be young, generally agreeable, and highly complimentary.
Excluding one.
“You wanna die?” Zoro grasps the hilt of his sword like one who is greeting a dear friend. Constantly they would fight, but not the kind of fight Sanji is used to.
Back two, three, four. Kick two, three, four.
It's not fighting, with real danger and real threats on both sides. Nor is it so impersonal as sparring. What they have is a delicately balanced blending of two personalities. A mutual partnership which is unattainable except through motion and contact.
Pressed for an answer there is only one thing Sanji would call it.
Dancing was the first lesson the old man taught him.
