Notes: The beginning of this is taken directly from the end of OP chapter 333.
"It's heavy..."
"That's what it is, to be captain. Don't lose sight. If you begin to lose sight now, who are we supposed to trust?"

Zoro came up on the roof of the inn they'd checked into. Luffy was sitting on a nearby roof, staring out at the sea.
"He's gone, Luffy."
Luffy turned, looking down at his first mate. Zoro had never seen him look so haggard and lost.
"You did the right thing, Luffy. The ship's is finished. And this is what HE wanted, too."
The boy jumped down, landing on roof. "We have to keep going..."
"Yeah."
The boy walked forward, his head falling onto Zoro's chest. The swordsman was a bit surprised. "Oi, Lu..." but he stopped when he heard a sniffle. "Luffy..." He put his arms around the boy. "It's ok, Luffy... we don't have to do it tonight."
He picked Luffy up. "Come on, Luffy... even pirate kings need to sleep..."
Zoro carried his captain into their hotel room and set him on one of the empty beds. After a moment's thought, Zoro climbed in with him, pulling the still sniffling boy to him. Luffy went rigid, and the older boy loosened his grip.
"I'll go..."
"Uh-uh," said Luffy, cuddling up to his first mate.
"Luffy... I... I'm not going to promise that we'll never fight, or that I'll never leave... but whatever happens, I'll always love you."

I'm glad people are liking the last line. I wasn't sure about it, myself. I wanted Zoro to say something, but the typical, "I'll never leave you" felt really wrong at a time like that.

Yeah... when thinking of this topic... well, these guys are TOUGH; physical pain doesn't effect them all that much. But it occurred to me that psychological pain still does. And we already have a good place in canon for that to occur...
Zoro, of course, is the one to console his captain. <3 <3
Well, I've gone on record as being an unabashed Zo/Lu fan. ^_^
Also, Zoro was the one who talked to him afterward, so it made sense for it to be him.
I liked it. :3
