onepieceyaoi100I actually came up with this drabble idea before the Voltron one, but was (figuratively) bashing my head for something funny rather than depressive. Well, I thankfully got a funny one out, and since I already had most of this one thought out, I might as well post it too.

Billions upon billions of glass tanks were scattered about the dark landscape. Long wires snaked among the tanks; connecting them all to the solitary, black tower. Clouds obscured the tower’s height.
Zoro, sweaty and bleeding, trudged toward Luffy.
“How’d it go?” Luffy asked.
“Heh. The greatest swordsman in the world stands by your side, Pirate King.”
“Congratulations on becoming the Pirate King, Monkey D. Luffy.”
“Good,” Luffy grinned, “Now rest a bit. I’ll go get the others.”
“This...is One Piece?”
“Fine with me,” Zoro murmured as he collapsed on the spot.
“When they said that I had acquired everything in the world, they did mean EVERYTHING.”
Zoro ignored his wounds as he ran. How did the Marines know that Luffy would be alone without protection against seastone weapons?
“So, our lives aren’t real?”
From what he’d heard, they had come armed to the teeth with those weapons.
“Oh, they’re real for those concerned. And if you want it to stay that way, you’ll have to make a sacrifice. Just like I did. You see, One Piece needs to be controlled and supported from the outside by a unique type of will. I made sure that such a will would appear; that YOU would appear.”
He spotted the execution platform up ahead.
“You still have time. Or, you could refuse now and wake everyone up.”
Luffy looked down at the frail human body floating inside one of the tanks nearby. Somehow, he knew that he was looking at the body of Zoro.
“I’ll do it.”
‘It’s as if they knew they would capture Luffy today…’
“But…”
“LUFFY!!”
Luffy looked up to see Zoro heading his way. He grinned and shouted his last, immortal words as the axes crisscrossed.
“…only after Zoro keeps his promise to me.”
And the world continued.

Hmmm, let's see if the following would clear things up for you and maybe some others:
One Piece = Matrix (duh)
Pirate King = The One (double duh)
Zoro had just defeated Mihawk.
Zoro had promised Luffy in the beginning to become the greatest swordsman and stand by Luffy (as long as Luffy promised to become the Pirate King).
Gold Roger is mortal, so he needs to make sure that someone will replace him as he nears death in the outside world.
Luffy decides to accept the position because if he doesn't, Zoro (along with everyone else) will wake up to a reality that would negate all of their hopes and dreams (with maybe the exception of Robin and her true history search, which I wasn't able to include).
To control One Piece, Luffy needs to remove himself from the inside world (as in, die in the virtual world).
The Marine head honchos may or may not be in the know about One Piece. (I'm deliberately leaving this part vague.)
