Aziraphale took in the damage and sighed.
"I can't keep doing this."
"Then don't, angel."
Crowley didn't even glance at him. His eyes were intent on the fight, his body a statue but for his heaving, belabored breaths.
"You're enjoying this," said Aziraphale in a tone somewhere between amused and accusing, "It's the ultimate punishment, and you're enjoying it."
Crowley turned to him for just a moment, now, to flash a grin from the deep shadow of his bandana. His eyes were no longer a serpent's slits, but they were still damn demonic. "Being human is the worst punishment you can think of?"
"It's the worst Below can think of, apparently."
Crowley chuckled harshly, his laughter bubbling up through the blood. "You'd like the food."
He turned back to take in the fight, and, for the first time, Aziraphale joined him. It was an epic battle of the sort they'd seen a thousand times, with the exception that two men were doing the damage of a hundred. When Aziraphale turned back to Crowley, that gleam in those eyes was faded--not dimming, but withdrawing. He cast a panicky arm towards the ex-demon, and it returned.
"Doesn't he ever wonder about how you can bleed your weight twice over?"
"No." Crowley got to his feet, the sword back between his teeth and ready to rejoin the fray. "Because he's a bigger demon than I am."
