So, of course, I look at a topic and go- whats the most unlikely direction I can go with this? Ya... This is well over, but I don't really care right now- didn't have time to parse it down before work.

Title: Unlikely Angel
Rating: PG
Pairing: Faint SanUso
Word Count: A whopping 388

The last thing they'd expect from their enemies was chemical warfare- though, after Don Kreig, perhaps it shouldn't have been. Nonetheless, whatever had been fired into their midst had knocked almost everyone on deck out, leaving the way clear for the second wave of attackers.

Usopp had managed, barely, to cling to consciousness- mustering all the strength he could, in his weakened state. He stood up with some effort, barring the way to his companions; bloody, and tired, but resolute.

"You're not touching them...", and the sharpshooter swayed a little, forcing himself to remain upright. The other pirates smirked, laughing in a nasty sort of way. "Oh? And what are you going to do to stop us, bleed on us?"

They stalked foreword once more, intent on the fame of killing bounties that high, but had a surprise in store. Insignificant, frightened, boastful Usopp pulled himself up to his full height- somehow seeming larger, now, than he really was- and while they could not see the ethereal wings that trailed out behind him, they could feel the change in the power of this man- a foreboding pressure; enough to force a few lesser men back in sheer fear.

"You. Will. Not. Touch. Them."

The words did not seem to come from his mouth, though his lips moved- but seemed to arrive directly in their minds, bypassing their ears entirely. The directive, the order was overwhelming, and those that were left standing, could no more move forward than sprout wings and fly.

"Leave now." The voice again, compelling, and within moments the deck was clear, conscious attackers picking up the fallen that could not obey, and leaving with haste.

Threat gone, the aura of power left him, and he slid tiredly to his knees, spent. After a few minutes of silence, there was a soft snort behind him. He turned to see Zoro, watching him through heavily lidded eyes.

"Who knew..."

Sanji wondered later, why Zoro would smirk whenever he would get close to Usopp- only once catching a portion of their conversation; though it made no sense to him.

"Fallen', eh?"

"Something like that..."

He had only been supposed to watch, not help- certainly not pirates. He wouldn't be allowed to go back for a long, long time- but that was ok. He liked where he was now.

I think I could have done more with this, had I had the time- might revise it a little later. Who knows?

This is so sweet! I love the thought of Usopp getting so attached to the crew that he doesn't care that he can't go back. And of course Zoro doesn’t have the decency to let knockout gas do something silly like actually knock him out. (And , to me, this also seems to have a tinge of ZoUso.)
