"You mean to tell me that Luffy's not really your brother and that you joined the Whitebeard Pirates to protect him from his real father?"
"And now you know the truth about me."
Ace bravely faced the Marine Taisa, battling the tears that threatened behind his eyelids. He now knew that they could never be. How Smoker must loathe him now. A coward and a liar. His eyes turned to the handsome visage of his beloved, searching for a sign of forgiveness. But Smoker's face was grim, revealing nothing of his thoughts. He felt the sound of his heart breaking. He turned around, knowing that one moment more in Smoker's presence will have him down on his knees, begging for forgiveness, begging for a second chance. He had to leave while he still had an ounce of dignity left.
"Where are you going?"
The tone was flat and cold. Nevertheless, Ace couldn't help his heart from leaping hopefully.
"I'm going to pack. Surely, they'll allow a change of clothes in prison?"
He dared not turn around. Surely it was his imagination or was the captain's voice closer?
"I'm not sure clothes are allowed in my prison."
A warm breath was fanning his ear and at the sound of the gravelly voice, Ace's knees buckled. Two strong arms were suddenly there to hold him up and through the tears blinding him, tender gray eyes met his own. Two pair of lips met in a searing kiss.
"I'll never let you go, Ace."
