"What's it like? The first?" He's bashful but curious.

"More amazing than the time I rode the gigantic plaid sea mongoose..." A glance, a shrug and the truth. "...A little scary."

A manicured finger placed against his quivering blue nose. "Ah... Hi-mi-tsu."

"Slimy. And... sticky. And... it's hard to breathe. Or see." A wagging finger and a serious set to his mouth. "Never try to eat a octopus if it's still alive, Chopper."

"If you're lucky, it'll be with a goddess whose beauty and eloquence you don't deserve but are somehow blessed to know anyway. If you're not lucky... well..." A long thoughtful drag and a flare of ash. "...you won't have to tell anyone about it."

No hesitation. "Better than money."

He almost doesn't ask Zoro.

"Your first kiss?" the silence after Chopper's nervous nod stretches for so long that the little reindeer almost apologies and leaves.

"It's like... a battle," he finally smiles, "that you both win."

This is a lovely little story. It's surprising how much character can shine through in so few lines. But Zoro's answer is without a doubt the best. That just seems so him, to compare kissing to a battle. Even better though, is just the mental picture it gives me.
