“You can’t leave it on for this!”
“Yes I can! I’m not takin’ it off!”
Luffy was adamant and Zoro gave the young man straddling his lap a look of annoyed affection.
“Why the hell not? You took everything else off already. Besides, it’ll get messed up.”
“Not if we stay like this.”
Now the captain was pouting and Zoro sighed. All day long Luffy had been extra protective of his hat, going out of his way to keep from taking it off. Usually he’d at least doff it when he was ‘swimming’ or when Nami made him take a bath for fear that he’d lose it or the water would cause damage. That day, though, it had remained stubbornly on his head.
“…Fine. Have it your way.”
It happened during a particularly vigorous moment; Luffy had thrown his head back, a low groan issuing from him, and the motion had caused the beloved straw hat to slip off his head onto the deck. There was a momentary pause in which nothing moved and then Luffy was scrambling off Zoro’s lap after his hat and the swordsman had collapsed onto his back, unable to support himself from the force of his laughter. Finally he managed to calm down and grin at the pouting teen.
“Next time you need a haircut, get someone else to help you do it.”
