Pell just stood there, stunned, with a horrified expression on his face as he continued to stare at the object given to him by someone he thought was his soul mate.
"...Chaka, is this your idea of a joke?" the King finally asked.
"It wasn't meant as a joke, Your Majesty. I just wanted to give Pell a birthday gift," Chaka replied.
"Couldn't you at least have de-feathered the birds before putting them in?"
"Well, the song said that the birds were going to pop out singing, so I figured they had to be alive and whole to do that."
"The song?"
"Well, I couldn't find the exact recipe, so I took the crust bit of the instructions from a cherry pie recipe I found, and added in what I heard from this cooking song about blackbird pie by a person named Sixpence. It proved difficult keeping twenty-four live blackbirds still as I baked."
"I think that's the least of your problems, Chaka."
*********************************************
The "song" Chaka heard was Sing a Song of Sixpence.
