Well, I'm new not only to the community, but also to LiveJournal itself... as well as writing fanfiction. XD So... Well, I hope I get this right. ^^; I've lurked here for a while, but not actually ever gotten up the courage to do anything... But I finally decided to just go for it. XD So... here is my first attempt... It fits with the 'parental figures' topic, I think, even though the pairing doesn't have the parental figure in it... ^^;

Title: Doctor (...I've always sucked at titles. -_-)
Rating: G? Probably...
Word Count: 300 (well... when I hand-counted it, I got 300 each time... when I put it in online word-counters, I got somewhere between 294 and 307... I don't have a word processor on my computer, so I can't use that to check. So I'm going by what I got when I hand-counted it, which is 300 words. XD)
Pairing: Usopp x Chopper (kinda at least... XD)
Topic: Parental Figures

Doctor.

He was the best man Chopper had ever known (not to mention the first), and the young reindeer still thought of him often. He thought of the stories Doctor had told him of the outside world, stories of adventures, pirates, and places much larger than the island of Drum. He thought of how smart Doctor had been, always seeming to know the answer to any question, no matter how obscure the subject was. He thought of how optimistic Doctor had been, always looking forward to the day he finally made sakura bloom.

But mostly, Chopper found himself thinking of Doctor's kindness. He had refused to take payment from his patients, and was always trying to find new ways to cure them. He had taken Chopper himself in, even when nobody else would. And then, of course, Doctor had, with his last breath, gone to save the Isshi-20 in order to save the kingdom...

Chopper sniffled at that last thought, suddenly reminded of the death of the man who called him "son". He burrowed himself deeper under his blankets, only to bump into something. He blinked, then remembered that he had been sleeping curled up with Usopp on the sofa.

Usopp...

The OTHER best man Chopper had ever known. Usopp told him all sorts of stories of adventures, pirates, and far-off lands Chopper hadn't even heard of. Usopp was always there to answer questions for him, although Chopper was still a little confused about some of the answers. And Usopp was always looking forward to the day he could finally call himself a brave warrior of the sea...

Chopper smiled, snuggling closer to his nakama. Doctor might be gone, and Chopper would never forget him. But now he had Usopp, and he didn't miss Doctor quite so much any more.

So, um... that's it. ^^; Any criticism/comments would be appreciated, since I'm still learning. ^_^
