Perfectionist much?
Jan. 13th, 2006 12:36 amOff I go.
Title: Harder Better Faster Stronger
Rating: PG (surprising with a title like that, hm?).
Word Count: 254.
Pairing: Usopp/Sanji, light nakamashipping.
Topic: Obsession.
There is always room for improvement.
The slingshot bullet upgraded by a delicate rebalancing of its components so that it works just the tiniest bit better next time. Next time, Zoro won’t need stitches because one Fire Star will be enough to drop the guy behind him.
The device redesigned again and again to make it work faster, stronger, more reliably. When Usopp is done, Nami’s Clima-Tact will be like an extension of her weather senses. She won’t need to be rescued because somebody got through her guard again.
The story embellished by poetic license and creative interpretation of events, just a little bit more outrageous and special than the one before it. Seeing Chopper’s eyes light up with the happiness he’s had too little of before now is worth honing his skill at improvisational fiction for.
The sketch made into art by care and attention to detail until it practically breathes. The way the eyebrow curls, just so. The clean lines of the jaw interrupted by stubble. The way his mouth relaxes when he sleeps is the same way it relaxes right before he leans in for a kiss. The folds of fabric here, a thin slice of exposed skin there, last curls of smoke from the forgotten cigarette in the ashtray casting a soft focus over everything. This one might be worth showing Sanji when he wakes up, might make him smile, might make him say that all that effort deserves a reward.
He can hope. Because there’s always room for improvement.
