Sanji is a master at hiding things when he wants to be. Whether it’s the good alcohol, the fresh-baked cookies, or even his own insecurities, he’s able to mask them and keep them out of sight.
Usopp is a master of finding things, but he doesn’t tell Sanji that. He knows that the cook’s favorite wine is hidden in the vegetable bin, and that the cookies are hidden in the wok, and he sees that Sanji is secretly afraid of a lot of things.
He knows that every night the chef checks the rations twice, planning menus weeks in advance and calculating calories and vitamins against their projected time of arrival in port. He knows that Sanji wears a suit that broadens his shoulders to hide his own slender build, because without the jacket it’s like his mass has been cut in half. He knows that sometimes Sanji is jealous of Zoro and Luffy’s insane strength, even though he’s monstrously strong in comparison to the rest of the crew as well.
He knows that Sanji is a master of hiding, because he’s seen Sanji’s left eye and all the pain and fear that he puts there and hides behind his hair… but he’ll never tell Sanji that.
