Took me long enough.
Feb. 20th, 2006 07:28 pmFinally wrote something for the challenge! Go me!
Title: Some Fantastic
Word Count: 298, and a fight it was getting there too.
Rating: G.
Pairing: Light nakamashippy.
Topic: Gifts.
You have a gift for stories, Usopp.
Kaya’s words, said the first week that he came by to tell her fabulous lies of a world past her bedroom. A gift from the gods, a gift meant to be shared with his nakama.
For Sanji, a saga with beautiful women and delicious food, rich with sensual descriptors. The cook would smile around his cigarette and ask him to describe those lovely ladies one more time, and he’d know that he’d done well.
For Zoro, a tale of hope and struggle, simply and elegantly phrased. The swordsman would pretend not to listen, pretend to sleep, but stopping midstory would earn him a single opened eye and a glare.
For Nami, a chronicle of faraway lands rich with treasure and adventure, just waiting to be discovered and mapped. Nami would tell him he was being silly and throw a mikan at him—except she never threw mikans around casually.
For Robin, a gentle anecdote of love and friendship, gracefully and elaborately worded. Her little smile never wavered and her bottomless blue eyes swallowed his words whole, but her quiet “Thank you, Longnose-san,” was worth spending some time stretching his vocabulary and descriptive abilities for.
For Luffy, a silly yarn and invented words, teasing the captain until they both laughed like fools. Luffy was his most entertaining audience because he participated in the stories nearly as much as Usopp did, stretching his rubber face into caricatures as he laughed.
For Chopper, Usopp saved his best stories. Chopper’s eyes would light up with joy as Usopp painted a shimmering world and populated it with fantastic characters and incredible events. The others often eavesdropped on these epics, but it was clear why he best loved telling tales to the man-reindeer:
Chopper never quit believing.

Date: 2006-02-21 12:41 am (UTC)I kinda of want to write some "big up da man Usopp" garbage, but frankly it would destroy the mood you've just created, so I'll just sit here and bask.
*basks*

Date: 2006-02-21 01:48 am (UTC)Chopper has to be the most important part of a fic about gifts. He has an awesome ska song about presents, after all.

Date: 2006-02-21 04:50 am (UTC)Which was a really long and rambling way of saying that you're one of my very most favorite authors now and I can't stop the love for you.
Also, this story was beautiful and touching. That last line really caught in my throat for some reason. Very beautiful.
