*suqeezes just past the deadline*
Feb. 22nd, 2006 10:04 amI didn't think I was going to have an entry for this week, but last night this bunny just flew through my living room and hit me on the head.
Title: Putting It To Words
Rating: PG
Word Count: 298 *triumphant*
Pairing: Nakamaship with a dash of ZoLu
Topic: Gifts
For one who knew Luffy well, it was easy to tell that he was a giving person. Each member of the crew had at one point received a special gift from their captain, gifts that would stay with them their entire lives.
Robin's gift was simple, but pure. It was friendship. Luffy had seemed to hear Robin’s silent cry for help back in Alabasta; now she was constantly reminded that she had finally found her nakama.
Chopper's gift was something more profound. It was recognition. To Luffy, Chopper wasn't a reindeer, a man, or a monster; Chopper was Chopper. Luffy never asked the doctor to be anything other than himself.
Sanji's gift was the ability to keep on believing. Luffy had blown into Sanji's life like a hurricane, and thanks to him, All Blue was more of a reality than ever before.
Usopp's gift was the gift of courage. If Luffy had never taught Usopp the value of nakama, Usopp never would have learned the value of the man he was inside.
Nami's gift was precious beyond comparison. It was freedom. Luffy had freed her from Arlong, and from the anxieties over Cocoyashi village. Thanks to Luffy, she could be free to be herself and care about whoever she wanted.
Zoro's gift was something without a name, something too deep for either of them to understand. Zoro would often try to find the words at night, with the stars above and only their bodies to keep each other warm. Zoro would run his hands through soft black tangles of hair and breathe deep the comforting smells of straw and the sea. Love was not encompassing enough a word to describe the gift Luffy had given him, but it was as close a word as he would ever find.
