"Ahh... Ohh... Please! I can't take it!"
Sweat dripped from Usopp's forehead, gluing down strands of coiled black hair; he blinked and screwed his face a little to try to keep the salty liquid out of his eyes. His shoulders trembled, tight fists belying his pleas for mercy, suggesting another boundary of will to penetrate.
The whole ship could hear what was happening. Most of the sailors were busily tending whatever busy-work they could find to try to ignore the terrible noises that crept through the ship's inner walls. Tashigi seemed particularly distraught, wandering to and fro in the vicinity of the brig but never going down inside, perhaps afraid of what she'd find there.
The crew had captured pirates before; that was practically all they'd done back in Loguetown. But this was somehow different: these pirates that they'd chased and helped in turn, the obsession of their Captain, the whole reason they'd come to the Grand Line...
Smoker had never privately interrogated a prisoner before. There wasn't a seaman on the ship who thought him dark hearted or sadistic, his dedication to Justice was clear. And yet, there was always something so intimidating about the immense power the man held inside, the cold strength of his gaze...
It was over an hour before the noises stopped, and the whole crew breathed a silent sigh of relief.
There wasn't really enough room on the cot for two people to lay abreast, so Smoker sat on the edge to give the young pirate space, irrationally annoyed when Usopp promptly stretched out to claim it all.
"This is great. I don't have a bed on Going Merry," Usopp said, grinning at the Marine. "You wanna interrogate me again?"
