An appetizer...
Mar. 9th, 2006 01:31 amWah, I've a lot to post tonight! This is a gift drabble to cheer up
chibi_trillian, who had the blues the other day.
Title:Rhythmic
Pairing:Smoker/Zeff (her OTP)
Rating:PG
Word Count:191
They had finally reached a level where they were getting a rhythm. The Marinelet knew the right moments to speed up and slow down, and the sea-chef almost had a complete map of the good spots to plunder with teeth and tongue.
That they had been meeting each other enough to establish a pattern was a major concern for both, but by the time they thought to bring it up, the pieces fell back into place and it was soon forgotten.
Truth be told, Zeff didn’t mind that rhythm too much. It was a soothing constant in his increasingly unstable life. But lately the urges to follow a new dream were growing stronger and stronger, and no matter how hard he tried to kick them to the back of his brain, they kept resurfacing. Starting fresh with a boat and a crew of his own was a sweet siren’s call.
As much as he didn’t want to admit it to himself, soon not even the thick bonds of smoke would be able to hold him back. But for now…for now he could lose himself in a comforting haze and be content.
I'm comtemplating starting a series of themed drabbles based on my calendar from last year. It was called Intercourses, and it was, of all things, an aphrodisaic cookbook with artsy photos. I thought it was cool, and so I am taking the twelve foods listed and doing a drabble for each one. I will also include the recipe for each for those who are interested. ^_^
Title:Basil
Pairing:Smoker/Zeff
Rating: R to be safe...
Word Count314
Intercourses: Basil
Smoker cast a dubious look at the soup that was put in front of him. When he agreed to sneak off and meet Zeff for a picnic lunch, his only request was that the pirate prepare something relatively simple. He couldn’t afford to stuff himself; people were starting to comment that he was putting on weight.
When Zeff showed up carrying a large thermos, a small bottle of wine, and a loaf of bread, Smoker breathed a sigh of relief. At last, they could share a non-fussy meal and spend more time burning calories. All was well in the Marine’s world…until he saw the green stuff in his tomato soup.
“Zeff…what’s this green crap in my soup?” Smoker prodded the offensive material with a piece of bread, frowning as bits of it clung to the crimson-stained crust.
“It’s called basil. Try it, it won’t hurt you.” The corners of Zeff’s mouth were twitching. He was hiding something. Smoker sniffed at the soup, and took a cautious sip. The pirate hadn’t lead him astray with food thus far, and it did smell really good-
But this wasn’t good. This was a seduction of his taste buds; a savory, velvet warmth that danced across his tongue and languidly penetrated his throat. And like a wanton, he greedily drank the rest down, torn between wanting to savor every drop and inhaling what was left. He even went so far as to wipe the bowl clean with his bread, groaning quietly as he slowly chewed.
Zeff’s attempt at hiding his smile finally broke down. “Some people consider it an aphrodisiac. Never took much stock in it…until now.”
Smoker licked his fingers clean and glared at the older man. “You chefs always make things so damn complicated,” he replied, grabbing Zeff by the shirt to pull him closer. “Since when have I ever needed any help?”
Tomato-Basil Soup
1 small onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 (14 ½ ounce) can chopped tomatoes
½ cup tomato sauce
¾ cup chicken broth
¼ cup cream
2 tablespoons coarsely chopped basil
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
salt/pepper to taste
Saute the onion and garlic in olive oil in a skillet until tender. Add the tomatoes. Cook over medium heat for ten minutes. Add the tomato sauce, broth, cream, and half the basil. Simmer 5-10 minutes to let the flavors meld. If desired, process with a hand blander for a smooth soup. Season with salt and pepper. Add the remaining basil and Parmesan cheese. Serve with toasted French bread, and enjoy!
Title:Asparagus
Pairing: Sanji/Luffy (I guess...), implied Sanji/Zoro
Rating:PG
Word Count: 281
Intercourses: Asparagus
There was something in the air that made the crew of the Going Merry just a bit sillier than usual that night. Maybe it was the rush of having nearly full stomachs after the tense two weeks with a low food supply. Everyone had been feeling the pinch, but Sanji’s increasingly paranoid mood had an effect on everyone. Finally landing at a good sized village had made them all positively giddy.
Food and drink was consumed freely for the first time in ages, and Luffy’s antics were drawing out laughter that had been repressed for too long. His impression of Usopp’s fishing failures had poor Chopper almost choking on his vegetables. Seizing the opportunity, Luffy jumped up on the table and grabbed a few stalks of asparagus from the reindeer’s plate.
“Oi, quiet,” he snarled in an almost perfect imitation of his first mate. “I have to concentrate for this attack.” He positioned the stalks in a mirror image of Zoro’s katana. The swordsman smiled despite himself and said nothing.
“Don’t play with your food.” Sanji began clearing the table, carefully balancing plates and cups on his arms. “Eat it or give it back to Chopper.”
Luffy gave him a quicksilver grin before settling back into ‘Zoro’. He placed one piece of asparagus in his mouth and held the others by his sides. “Now you’re in for it,” he cried as he jumped off the table. “Three veggie style: Ninety-nine riceball!”
He landed triumphantly in front of the chef to the sounds of howling laughter. Even Zoro had to chuckle at that. That is, until Sanji quirked an eyebrow and calmly chomped the end off of Luffy’s makeshift sword.
