Here they are, the next two drabbles in my Intercourses series. None of these drabbles are really connected to each other, so they can be read and enjoyed on an individual basis. I included bonus recipes at the end of the drabbles just like last time; I hope they go over well.

And because I am such a lazy enterprising writer, I am using the first one as my entry for this weeks topic of "topping". Nope. No shame. None. Why'd you ask? ^_~

Title:Chocolate (original, ain't it?)
Pairing:Smoker/Ace
Rating:PG
Word Count:265. (The recipe included at the end is not part of the fic, and therefore is not counted.)
Topic:Topping
Disclaimer:Done for fun, but I am not the one who made them.

Smoker was used to hearing certain sounds when Ace made his grand appearances on his ship. Friendly name calling, highly unsubtle sneaking footsteps, and the ever popular “Hey, gotta light?” joke that wasn’t funny the first or the nine hundredth time; all these were as familiar to the captain’s ears as the sound of ocean waves.

Smoker was also very used to Tashigi’s tonal qualities having a very short wavelength when dealing with the bratty pirate. It always fell between a range of sotto voce exasperations to firm yet polite admonishments. Her vocal qualities were the quiet harmony to Ace’s good-natured, melodic teasing. The conversations were also a strangely soothing part of Smoker’s world.

Hearing Tashigi squee with delight was as discordant as nails on a chalkboard.

Smoker threw his door open in time to see his normally calm, collected subordinate throwing her arms around the laughing pirate and squeezing him like a tube of toothpaste. When she pulled away, he saw that she was clutching a small pink and blue striped box. Smoker was shocked enough to have dropped his cigars…if he weren’t already grinding his teeth.

The Marine gave Ace a fierce lecture back in his quarters, pacing all the while and ignoring Ace’s cheeky smirk. He got so wrapped up in his *not* jealous rant that the pirate was easily able to smush a mostly melted chocolate into his mouth.

“These were made with cognac,” Ace chuckled as he licked stray chocolate from the corners of Smoker’s twitching mouth. “The shopgirl said they would go well with cigars. I think she’s right.”

Black Russian Cake

Cake:
1 package dark chocolate cake mix
1 cup vegetable oil
1 (4 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding
4 eggs
¾ cup strong coffee
½ cup crème de cacao
¼ cup Kahlua

Topping:
1 ½ cups confectioner’s sugar, sifted
3 tablespoons strong coffee
3 tablespoons Kahlua
3 tablespoons crème de cacao

Combine cake mix, oil, pudding mix, eggs, coffee, crème de cacao, and Kahlua in a large bowl. Stir together until just combined. Pour into a greased 10 inch tube pan until ¾ full*. Bake 45-50 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove from the pan and invert onto a serving plate. Punch holes throughout the cake with a skewer or ice pick. Prepare the topping by combining confectioner’s sugar, coffee, Kahlua, and crème de cacao. Mix well and spoon over the warm cake.

*Use the leftover batter for cupcakes if you like. ^_^

The sneezing begun a half mile from the colorful island. The pollen that drifted on the sea breeze didn’t seem to bother anyone…except Zoro. Even tying his bandana around his face hadn’t helped; so when they finally docked on the flower-choked shore the swordsman was reduced to a coughing, red-eyed, sneezing wreck.

Chopper and Luffy pulled a Doctor-Captain’s orders combination attack and banished Zoro to the lower decks to recuperate while the crew went exploring. He went, but only because one powerful sneeze left him open to a Sanji kick that sent him tumbling into the men’s quarters.

When he awoke from a nap later that day, Zoro found himself looking up at three eager, happy faces. Luffy and Chopper stood to the left and right of him; Chopper was hugging a jar of mysterious contents. Usopp stood in front of him looking smug, despite the odd patches of white stuff covering his arms and face.

As it turned out, the trio had just returned from a rousing adventure. The island was indeed a floral paradise, as well as inhabited by a group of humongous bees. Anyone with a minuscule amount of intelligence would have kept a large distance from said insects, so of course the three of them went in to steal some honey.

According to Usopp, they had barely escaped with their lives because someone decided they wanted to ride a bee. In the ensuing ruckus, Usopp was stung a few times (after slaughtering several bees, of course), and Chopper saved the day with quick thinking and negotiation.

With that prompt, the shy reindeer held the jar out to Zoro. It was half full of golden-brown honey, and had “For Zoro” meticulously painted on in a fetching shade of green. It pleased and surprised him so much he grinned at them, and he didn’t mind the sticky hugs that soon followed.

French Toast Baked in Honey-Pecan Sauce

Toast:
4 eggs, beaten
¾ cup half and half
½ tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 thick slices French bread

Sauce:
½ stick butter (1/4 cup)
¼ cup brown sugar
1/8 cup honey
½ cup maple syrup
¼ cup chopped pecans

Combine the eggs, half and half, brown sugar, and vanilla extract in a small bowl. Pour half the mixture into a baking dish. Place the bread in the pan and top with the other half of egg mixture. Refrigerate, covered, overnight*. In a pan, melt the butter, then stir in the brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, and pecans. Pour into a 9x13 inch baking dish, then add the soaked bread slices. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown and puffy. Serve immediately.

* It is very important not to skip this step. Overnight soaking allows the egg mixture to soak all the way through the bread so that it puffs up properly the next morning. ^_^

Hearing Tashigi squee with delight was as discordant as nails on a chalkboard.

LOL - this just rings true. (even though I haven't even seen all the smoker/ace parts yet and only a bit of her)

And the second one: sticky hugs = love.
