Ha. Finally got an on-topic idea!
Title: Class
Word Count: 291.
Rating: PG-13, if that.
Pairing: Smoker/Zeff. Let's hear it for Wayback Machine "creative" pairings.
Topic: Education.
Smoker had never been much interested in wine. It struck him as a profoundly inefficient and expensive way to get drunk, especially if one was used to the grog that was standard issue for Marines and Marine cadets. Besides, if Smoker was drinking, he wanted to get drunk, not waste a month’s pay on some fancy-ass frou-frou girly drink that wouldn’t even get you decently tipsy.
Zeff, upon learning this, had promptly set out to “educate your heathen palate, you Philistine.” And so the wine-tasting lessons had begun, further eating into what little time Smoker had with Zeff. When Smoker had raised a protest, Zeff had glared at him and pointed out that good taste in wine could potentially get him a promotion in the future. He’d followed it up by saying that just because Smoker kept drinking the taste-bud-slaying swill that passed for a drink in the Navy, it didn’t mean he couldn’t get a little goddamn culture for once in his life.
A month of scattershot lessons later, Smoker’s opinions on wine hadn’t changed substantially. About all that he’d learned was that people got way too picky about their damn fermented grape juice, that a trained palate like Zeff’s could apparently get a hundred flavors out of a glass of wine where Smoker’s tongue only registered “shitty booze”…
…and that Zeff could successfully be gotten to the point of drunkenness where he was fairly easy to toss into bed after a single bottle of wine. And if it had been really good wine, the grumpy bastard wouldn’t even fight about it.
No, Smoker still didn’t like wine. He certainly liked Zeff when Zeff drank wine, though. That was worth dropping a month’s pay on a fancy-ass frou-frou girly drink.
