Title: In the Aftermath
Author: paxnirvana

Pairing: Zoro/Sanji
Topic: Silent Exchanges
Word Count: 299 (Woot for hyphens!)
Warnings: Um. Blood?
Blood dripped, thick, from the blade of the white-hilted sword; the slow fall matched by a brief scattering of drops from Yubashiri as he shifted it down to his side. The blood smeared on the blade of the cursed sword vanished before it could fall, appeasing the blade's hunger only momentarily.
There was no one left alive on the deck of this enemy ship but the two of them, Zoro knew. Sucking in a heavy breath, he lifted narrowed eyes and scanned the deck for the one who still resisted being named clearly as 'enemy' or 'friend' but only as nakama.
He didn't have to look far. The cook was just straightening up from one of his impossible hand-stands, red-splattered shoes landing silently on the deck beneath him. One hand was already tugging the snug black coat back into line over lean hips even as the other went for an inner pocket and fresh tobacco.
He closed the distance even as the pale head bowed and the inevitable lighter flared to life, the small flame illuminating the fall of hair covering the cook's face. He sheathed two swords in one quick motion, lifting the last from between his teeth as the cook's gaze jerked up to meet his, daring, heated, aware.
The merest fraction of a second passed. His lips throbbed, his teeth ached, his jaw worked in silence. Leaving him starkly aware of the emptiness of his mouth.
So empty. Always in the aftermath. Even after victory. Emptiness... just waiting to be filled again. But in a way that words never could.
Blood-spattered hands lifted. Gripped. Pulled. The freshly-lit cigarette fell away, unheeded. An answering grip caught the back of his neck and held tight as the cook's familiar seeking tongue momentarily eased the emptiness of his mouth.

I love these two paragraphs...I like your reasoning.^____^And of course the first part where they just ended a battle was so hot too.
