When I Want To Dance...
Jun. 25th, 2006 08:33 pmQuick and dirty (except not) entry for this week's challenge, so I can get back to torturing the ever-loving crap out of the boys. I swear, I'm trying to write something happier...
Title: I Want To Dance
Word Count: 300
Topic: Dexterity
Rating: PG
Pairing: San/Uso flavored, Zo-->San implied
Disclaimer: Owned by Eiichiro Oda.
It’s the tapping that wakes Zoro up; the light, rhythmic clicking just on the fringes of his consciousness registers with his battle-honed senses as vaguely reminiscent of the sound of Sanji’s feet before a fight. He glances around, notices Sanji out of his hammock, and grumbles to himself about perverted cooks hogging all the action as he grabs his swords and heads topside.
The tapping is louder on deck, but there’s no sign of past or present combat. Then he turns around and sees something that makes him freeze in his tracks.
Sanji stands alone in the moonlight, his suit replaced by exercise clothing. His feet fly in quick, light steps, the flash of metal on the bottom of his shoes accentuating the tapping. Zoro can’t quite understand how so many taps can come from a single swing of Sanji’s foot. Poise and dexterity are on display in a way different from the deadly dance he does in battle and the flailing proclamations of love.
This is discipline. This is restraint. This is power channeled into absolute precision. This is… driving him absolutely insane. Zoro’s seen those feet cleave boulders and crush bones, and he knows damn well that Sanji could easily shatter the boards beneath his feet instead of making that ridiculous tapping noise.
He looks up to the crow’s nest, where Usopp is on watch. The sniper stares down at him and motions for him to watch silently. The swordsman turns back to look at Sanji and pointedly tries to ignore how the sweat on the cook’s skin glistens.
He’s not jealous, not of the midnight exhibition for the liar. Not even as Sanji ends his tap dance and slips into flexible jazz shoes, twisting into positions that make Zoro ache to watch.
Not jealous in the least.

Date: 2006-06-26 12:55 am (UTC)Sanji just seems to be a dancing kind of guy, and any time someone writes him doing that, it just works, at least for me. *dreamy grin* Don't be jealous, Zoro...
Poise, and dexterity are on display in a way different from the deadly dance he does in battle and the flailing proclamations of love.

Date: 2006-06-26 02:42 am (UTC)Zoro's just jealous that Sanji doesn't bend that way for him... at least not in this fic.
Agh. Left a comma in there from before the sentence was edited. ::Smacks self:: Poise is a fun word, though.

It's kind of old. Really old. So it sucks a good bit. Foreshortening and perspective pwn'd me.

XDDD ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS!!! Sanji looking forlornly up at the sky, then completely deranged in the next panel. It was awesome. And "Great Tailor Usopp" was hilarious, as he says at the end... He Wins.
(especially for using the word campiest XDno subject

I so see how that would appeal to Zoro and it really clarified the mental image for me; so much power... so much Sanji... Mmmmmm. Poor Zoro, having to watch all that grace, strength and flexability and knowing you can't have it.
don't worry Zoro, this is Mettathron; soon you'll be too busy bleeding or watching Sanji bleed to worry about it. XDno subject

Date: 2006-06-26 06:09 pm (UTC)And the doubt for Zoro's jealousy is the final touch, jealous not of his ability, but of Usopp's intimacy...
I give it a 10 ^^
