chibi_trillian for the title of Master of Angst. For the full heart-rip effect, please read that first.
Roronoa Zoro does not get sick. He does, however, get poisoned, lose more blood than should be humanly possible, and ignore the doctor’s orders of strict bed rest to keep him from getting the bug that’s been hitting the other crew members while his immune system is compromised. Which is why Zoro is now lying in bed with a cool compress against his feverish forehead and an irate Sanji checking his temperature while Chopper makes more medicine.
The soft whimper-like sounds coming from the delirious swordsman as he shifts uneasily in his sleep grate on Sanji’s nerves. They make Zoro sound… vulnerable… and Sanji still hasn’t managed to quite kill the urge to reach out and hold him.
“Shut up, shut up, shut up!” He hisses, finally grabbing the swordsman by the shoulders to shake him aware. Zoro starts awake, or seems to, since he crushes Sanji to him so hard and fast that the cook loses his breath.
“Don’t…” He whispers harshly, voice still slurred by his semi-conscious state. “Don’t…”
“Let go, shit for brains.” Sanji tries to wriggle free, calling up indignation for the strength to break away.
“Don’t go.” Zoro’s grip and voice falter. “I didn’t… don’t… don’t let go.” Sanji pulls back until all the swordsman is holding is the edge of his cuff.
He should pull away; break all contact, and sit on the other side of the room until Usopp comes down to switch watch. Instead, he hooks one finger around Zoro’s and sits back down, trying not to take comfort in how the other man relaxes at the contact.
“I’m here.” He mutters, looking away so he doesn’t feel like he completely surrendered. “I’m here, you stupid asshole.”
“Always.” Zoro murmurs, gaze sober and clear and darkening as he watches Sanji flinch. “Always.”

Date: 2006-06-26 10:57 pm (UTC)The love is for the fic, the hate is for your ridiculous writing talent!!! (As is more of the love.) This came through so clearly and I can just see it happening, read everything in their body language and ...just ...GAH!
The image of Sanji sitting, looking the other way as the tension drains from Zoro's body and their hooked fingers the only contact between them.... DAMN YOU I WISH I COULD DRAW. Zoro's clear and darkening gaze at the end... *whimpers*
AND ZORO BEING VULNERABLE!!! SO MUCH LOVE!!!
I'm so glad you continued this, the tension between them just... vibrates my brain. @_@
Out of curiousity, how did you plan for this to turn out?
Re: Good song too...
Date: 2006-06-27 01:33 am (UTC)Thank you very much. I'm glad you love(and hate) it. I'm currently trying to turn "Promises" into a comic, but if I get time, I may take a stab at drawing that one scene.
Sadly enough, this was supposed to be a happy ending. Instead, it turned into open-angst and a lead in to more fic. ::headdesk:: Proof that I can't write anything not painful. I'm almost scared how the next one will turn out... because there will be a next one. This one kind of sucks as an ending.

Date: 2006-06-27 03:30 am (UTC)Endings are more satisfying when they aren't rushed and all the angst is worked through first anyway. *grins*

Is this going to have a happy ending? ;__;

Date: 2006-06-27 01:48 am (UTC)This was the happy ending. At least, it was supposed to be. I may make another attempt.

That is probably the most touching gesture that I've seen them do. I love how you wrote Zoro's vulnerable side, and with Sanji telling him I'm here...it's just so sweet.
This is beautiful.

Date: 2006-06-27 07:13 am (UTC)i've friendedededed you. do you really take illustration requests?
no subject
Date: 2006-06-28 01:50 am (UTC)When I'm not working on projects, I'll usually accept requests. The fic illustration was a while ago, but chances are that if someone asks me for art, I'll usually do what I can... Unless it's cracktastic. Then I usually end up with a mental blue-screen-of-death before I can draw anything.
