The very notion of going to a “poetry slam” did not sound like a fun time to Zoro at all. But Sanji, Robin, and Usopp had seen the poster for it and were determined to drag him along, claiming that the culture would do him some good. He’d grumbled and muttered about it until Usopp spoke the magic words (“Open bar.”); however, even the fairly decent wine was barely enough to keep Zoro from taking a nap in his chair.
Usopp was in his element. Once it had been established that anyone could recite a line or two, the sniper had the crowd eating from the palms of his dexterous hands. Robin absorbed everything with an almost amused air, as though the rather pedestrian offerings were humorous. Even Sanji was enjoying himself. He had the ladies in a near swoon after drawling out some sonnet by a guy Zoro had never even heard of.
Although it may not have been his sappy words so much as what he wore. The smartly tailored black suit and tie did wonders to accent the crimson silk shirt beneath. Making him sit through this tripe wasn’t torture enough, but he had to wear that shirt. Devious son of a…
“You! You sir! Why don’t you indulge us with something, hmm? Don’t be shy!”
The sound of a crowd snapping their fingers in unison almost managed to drown out Zoro’s coughing fit and the sound of two crewmates nearly laughing themselves sick. The swordsman glared at them, fierce pride…and something else…aglow in his eyes as he got to his feet.
“Alright. Here.” He cleared his throat.
"Your sexy red flag
Brings memories of battles
Do you challenge us?"
The expressions on Sanji and Usopp’s faces alone made that whole evening worthwhile.
