Weird one.
Jul. 23rd, 2006 05:01 pmI have no idea where this OR its writing style came from. I'm not sure if it sucks or not. O_o
Title: Unspoken
Word Count: 229.
Rating: PG.
Pairing: Sanji/Zoro and lack of same.
Topic: Off!
Words.
They fall
(tumble trip stumble like a clumsy boy training himself to kick like a man)
from your lips like rain.
(rain on a rock on the ocean, life and denial of same in turns)
More words than I’ve ever heard you say in one sitting
(eat it all, don’t let it go to waste, though it’s bitter and moldy and it makes me sick)
and they hurt
(like starving)
but they make a self-sacrificing sort of sense.
(he ate his leg, you ate your love so I could survive)
Stupid bastard, you aren’t supposed to talk like that.
(like him like him you sound like him)
I’m not helpless—I can take care of myself.
(I’m not a baby eggplant, dammit, I don’t need protecting anymore)
I’m a grown man
(aping what the adults do, black smoke in my lungs, throat burning eyes watering but I’m a man now)
and you can’t just throw me away.
(like the food I threw out on the Orbit, still regret that, still have nightmares though I’d never tell you)
Oh, you can, can you?
(useless and weak, old man so close to dying and I can’t do anything but cry)
Fine, I never needed you anyway.
(don’t leave me here cold and wet and hungry)
You’re such an asshole, shitty swordsman.
(I want you)
I hate you.
(I love you)

I shivered when I read this ending, it's completely how thoughts and emotions can run. The flow of this just makes it seem so heartbreaking.

Date: 2006-07-24 03:24 pm (UTC)My favorite bit was probably this part: "he ate his leg, you ate your love so I could survive". It's an interesting point and the line that ties the drabble together for me; connecting Zoro and Zeff and Sanji's frustration at not being trusted to take care of himself. Experimental perhaps, but enjoyable. ^_^ Of course, I love it even more after seeing that it counts as a continuation of Misunderstandings and Missteps (both of which I adore to death and continue wondering if there will be an "offical" sequel to some day. Maybe? ^_^).

Date: 2006-07-25 03:26 am (UTC)And then my brain took a sharp left with Sanji fleeing into the forest only to meet Shanks and crew and Zoro and Usopp (with Usopp leading, of course) coming to a much unneeded rescue and Usopp and Yasopp facing off with their respective weapons only to recognize who the other was at the same time... then I forced that particular train of thought to derail.
