Ashes to Ashes
Jul. 25th, 2006 11:26 pmTitle: Ashes to Ashes
Rating: PG-13 for angst and brief language
Word Count: 299
Pairing: Smoker/Ace, with very very subtly implied Ener/Ace
Topic: Territory
Notes: This was prompted by a gorgeous sketch and the bizarre yet oddly delicious pairings that Ace seems to beg for.
Ace's visits were becoming less frequent. He used to drop by every three or four months; sometimes it was only eight weeks between their quiet meetings. Now, though, he stayed away, and Smoker read far too much into his absence.
When he finally showed up, their time together was brief and fumbled, whispered apologies as common as nail-marks and bruises not left by the marine himself. A thunderstorm roiled overhead once, shards of lightning clashing like God's judgment, and Ace glanced up nervously, worry creasing his face with age. He mumbled something about the late hour and almost fled, leaving Smoker to fan the cooling ashes of their lust. The sudden departure didn't concern Smoker, exactly, but it prompted him to consider certain thoughts he would not have otherwise entertained.
Someone else was taking the fire-fist. Not that it matters to me who he fucks, he lied to himself, but he looks a bit maltreated. Not that every anonymous scrape and scab makes me flinch when I look at him, but I don't want my brat --
He checked himself in time.
-- the brat wounded. It would cripple the chase, make it stumbling and painful, and too quick.
Smoker only allowed this encroachment on the brat because, when the truth came to light, there was never Smoker and Ace. Only an illicit string of encounters bound them to one another, linked with the smell of sulfur and stinging ashes flicked into dark eyes. On his last visit, he had left a different smell in the air, one of static and ozone. As he rose from the bed like an ebony phoenix born of ashes, Smoker cracked an eye open and watched his departure.
The faint noise of Ace's skiff roaring away from the base was followed by the approaching roll of thunder.

Date: 2006-07-26 08:24 pm (UTC)It also seems oddly plausible that Ener would pick up Ace. I have no idea how, but it's Ace. If you were a god... wouldn't you want him?

Date: 2006-07-27 04:45 am (UTC)I'm very very glad it occurred to you though. *feeds small electric smut bunnies* Don't be sad; give in to the happy firelightning porn thoughts (even if you don't write them). The double bonus is that there can be SmoAce h/c afterwards! ^_^
