"Welcome to Galley La," Paulie told the new worker. With his rock hard gaze and equally strong handshake, it gave the impression that he wasn't a man to be trifled with.
"Thanks," chirped the pigeon on his shoulder, causing that impression to be quickly replaced with a new one.
As time passed, Paulie formed some type of respect for the man, if not comradeship towards him, despite how the bird just wouldn't let him take Lucci seriously. Months passed, until one night, when the workers went to Blueno's to celebrate the finishing of a lucrative job. By One AM, after several hours spent throwing back cheap alcohol, Paulie was barely able to stand, let alone walk. Getting up for yet another drink, he stumbled into none other than Lucci. "You're drunk," Hattori sang out.
"No shit," slurred Paulie defensively, attempting to walk away, but only finding himself stumbling over Lucci again, grabbing onto him to regain his balance as he felt a strong arm hook around his waist, pulling him up and leading him out of the bar.
"You've had enough."
"Damn bird, ruinin my night," Paulie mumbled just coherently enough to make Lucci smirk.
Finding himself half an hour later lying on what he assumed was Lucci’s couch, Paulie gazed up into the predatory look in Lucci's eyes and hungry smile on his face. Letting out a sharp gasp while teeth roughly bit his neck, Paulie started as he heard a deep chuckle by his ear instead of the higher pitched chirping noise he had grown accustomed to. As Lucci began undoing his pants, Paulie’s first impression came flying back to him. Moving to give Lucci better access, Paulie couldn’t help but wonder if discrediting himself using that damn bird had been the bastard’s plan all along.
(And it kinda was in the manga if you think about it, but for different motives)
