Only one still hacked up sand - the one who claimed he wouldn't die until he became the best.

His thumb rubbed against the frayed silk of a ribbon, leaving a darker crimson smear against bold red.

"Sir Crocodile."

"Hm?"

"Cuffed and thrown overboard."

A nod.

"Good. Take the swordsman and prepare to burn the ship, we want no trace of them remaining for anyone else to find."

"Yes, Sir."



He looked at the hat again, giving in to perhaps an impulse or perhaps a last, unspoken request, throwing the hat into the air. It sailed above the flickering fingers of golden orange that reached for it, bobbing and waving, the small tears that let blue sky peep through almost made it seem as it were weeping - for a promise that would be never be kept.

Okay... I confess... I'm not completely sure what's going on here. It sounds like... Crocodile killed Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hats went after him and only Zoro survived? And that after the battle someone else showed up (either Smoker or Shanks, I'm slightly inclined towards Shanks) and dumped the defeated shichibukai overboard and swanned off with Zoro (but not as a prisoner, which is why I'm inclined to think it's Shanks). Have I got that right?

Actually... it was supposed to be Croc killed everybody. Luffy was the cuffed and dumped overboard. I didn't really think that it would be taken differently, but since Shanks was one (which I read somewhere, so I might be wrong) - it could have gone that way too. ^^; I just didn't really think about how it might be looked at, since I didn't really point out who was doing what.

I'd originally interpreted it as Crocodile getting revenge, with only Zoro left alive (to be recruited??), but sakurazuka_jae's interpretation makes sense too (makes more sense, probably XD).

But whichever one is correct it still sucker punches me in the gut, and I wish this had been in time for judging ;_;.

Ding. Zoro was the only one (cause he's a stubborn git) and Croc was gonna break him in, forcing him to do his bidding..

But, the way you guys saw it as Shanks getting revenge on Croc - seems more cool. lol. I was thinking about doing a drabble followup that involved something like that, but since this one is sort of open, I'll just leave it as is.

I thought it was the same as sakurazuka_jae, but that it was Ace not Shanks or Smoker

Ahh. It gets thrown as they're setting fire to the ship, to the sails or something. I must have left that part out - I swore I typed it in when I had in notepad, however.
