Timing was something Sanji had learned quickly in life. If a dish was left in the oven too long, it became charred and burned, wasting the ingredients. If it was taken out too soon, the food was undercooked, leaving it cold on the inside, not browned enough, also wasted the ingredients, and possibly could cause sickness. Yes, timing was essential to a Love-Cook, whether it was when the water had boiled enough, if the meat was cooked all the way through, or that the sauce had simmered for the right amount of time.
Of course, timing wasn't only important for cooking. It was also necessary for eye contact and romantic sweet nothings whispered to beautiful, refined ladies. Which he would master any day now. Until then, he'd make do with what he had perfected.
With out fail, every afternoon, the lazy swordsman could be found sleeping out on the deck. When the sun was just warm enough to feel pleasant, and there was low humidity, all one had to do was watch until the moron wrinkled his nose for a moment and pulled each finger into a loose fist. If a fast kick was aimed to the head, the idiot would wake up angrier and crankier than he would feel at any other time. The crankiness caused the man to be easily goaded into bringing the fight into the galley or somewhere else, far away from the prying eyes of the other crew members. In the state Zoro was in, it was easy for him to get worked up in many different ways. All it took was a few dark glances, and strategically placed touches before Sanji found himself exactly where he intended to be.
Yes, timing was everything.
