Meh, turned out more ackward than I wanted. Written while waiting for my sis to finally beta a longer version and continuation of a drabble.
Paulie'd always prided himself on his people skills. He felt there was no one he couldn't win over in time. He’d never doubted himself until Rob Lucci arrived.
Upon meeting the man, Paulie'd found his skills being tested more than ever before. He'd never meant someone who never spoke, unless he was throwing his voice to a sarcastic, nagging bird. Beyond that, the man never showed any emotion. His face was a slate that was always wiped clean and his eyes were cold and expressionless unless arrogance or superiority was shimmering in them. It'd be tough, but Paulie was never one to turn away from a challenge.
After three years of attempts at conversation, time spent in the bar, and working together, Paulie blearily wondered if he was finally getting somewhere when he found himself in the alley behind Blueno's, with Lucci attacking him with his teeth. Shoving him back for a moment, Paulie drunkenly slurred something unintelligible, watching for Lucci's reaction.
Slightly disappointed with only getting a raised eyebrow, Paulie figured it was a start, as he reached for Lucci's shoulders and leaned in for a kiss.
After six years during which he felt he'd found a sense of camaraderie, a bizarre friendship, and somewhat lover, Paulie was forced to realize Rob Lucci was as cold as his eyes.
He’d been played. There never was camaraderie between them; the years of working together were only a means for Lucci to complete his mission. Nor was there a friendship, just Lucci staying close to the head foreman.
As for a sometimes lover, Paulie bitterly recognized that he’d only been a warm body to Lucci, something for Lucci to entertain himself with until the government reassigned him to ruin someone else’s life. He'd failed, but he'd get over it.
“Tell them they’re fired.”
