Ganbatte, boys...
Sep. 3rd, 2006 02:03 pmTitle: Move Mountains
Topic: Women
Word Count: 299
Rating: PG
Pairing: Sanji->Nami; Zoro->Sanji; Robin->Zoro?
Disclaimer: Not mine. Probably just as well. Here, have them back...
Summary: Robin watches her crewmates dance the dance of unrequited love. Someday, one of them will succeed, she's certain. Women know these things, after all. Just, probably not today.
Excuse: Erm.
ptps's exchange request tickled my fancy? And Sanji really *is* a hopeless dork. And I just can't resist the Zo/San. Oh well. ;)
Notes: Meh. I dunno 'bout this one. Some days, I get Robin. Just, maybe not today...

Hopeless, he was.
Sanji was quite hopeless in his devotion to Nami.
As if his single-minded persistence were enough to move mountains, all by itself.
His feet certainly could. But this mountain wasn't subject to that sort of fortitude.
Always seeking to determine his order in her world, always seeking to improve that position.
Steadfastly loyal, eternally devoted, he'd drop anything for her, do anything for her.
There was nothing that could make him betray that faith.
Invariable fidelity, constant as the stars and sea.
For a smile, for a fond word, for a single pat on the shoulder.
Just... hopeless.
Because she didn't care for him that way. Never had. Probably never would.
And blind.
Because he couldn't see the devotion in someone else's eyes, when they turned towards him.
The other hid his faith better, let temper and pride explain the colour to his face when they spoke. He manufactured his physical advances out of force and combat. To his credit, they landed, stuck, were accepted for at least what they seemed to be, where Sanji's overtures of gentility were brushed off as mere annoying advances.
And yet, he was just as hopeless, for Sanji was unswerving in his dogged pursuit of Nami.
He was just as relentless in his own pursuit, determined to carve a spot for himself in Sanji's heart.
And quite possibly, he was just as blind, although the eyes Robin turned on him didn't carry that same hopeless gaze, but rather the wistful one of a much elder sibling.
"Ganbatte," she whispered, as she watched them begin their dance anew - although to whom, even she was uncertain.
Because she had faith in them. Faith to move mountains.
Because they would. Mountains were nothing to these men.
A woman just knew these things.

Date: 2006-09-04 12:56 pm (UTC)Truthfully, I'm not sure how it happens either. Normally I tend to be much wordier (at least in type!)...
