A/N: Yes, I am that much of a nerd. If you know the tune, sing along.
The inn was pleasant enough for the Strawhats: the drinks weren’t over-watered or over-priced, the food was tasty, and there was even a musician playing old tunes on a weather beaten guitar.
Things were approaching the height of merriment when the musician started strumming a jolly set of chords. Nearly all the other patrons roared with delight; this song was a crowd favorite.
“Uuusooop,” the singer crooned over the cheers. “Great Caaaptain Uuusoop!”
Everyone at Luffy’s table froze, similar expressions of shock and confusion plastered on their faces. The crowd began to clap along to the beat, countering the pounding Nami gave to Zoro’s back as he choked on his rum.
“I’ll tell you the tale of a pirate
Whose infamy is known throughout the land.
He’s o’er nine feet tall, with eyes cold as sleet,
Eight thousand pirates are his to command!”
“…Usopp, just what in the HELL is this?!” Nami demanded, the wrath of an oncoming squall blazing in her eyes.
“I-I don’t know, honestly! I’ve never heard this song before!” Usopp wailed, caught between wanting to burst with pride and cower in fear. Luffy and Chopper let out a simultaneous squeal of joy while looking back and forth from the singer to the sniper. Zoro and Sanji twitched; Robin looked singularly amused.
“…from ninety miles away!
So raise up your glass and give him his due,
To Great Captain Usopp! The scourge of East Blue!”
The waitress stopped by their table, blithely ignoring the swirling maelstrom of auras surrounding them as she refilled their glasses.
“Blathering idiots, the lot of them,” she muttered. “Everyone knows he’s a myth. Otherwise, there’d be a bounty for him, wouldn’t there?”
The only reply she got was four pairs of hands slapping over Luffy’s mouth before he could dispute her claim.
